Warning: This is a complete mom post with an overload of the words poop, pee, and potty! If you don't care to read about such things, just skip this one.
First of all, let me say that I never imagined I'd be doing the whole potty training thing this early. I had a friend who potty trained her daughter around 12 months by sitting her on the potty every 2 hours, and I admired that but thought it took more discipline on the mom's part than I have. A few months ago my mom came down to visit and brought me a little potty she used to have at her house for my niece and nephew. I thought, "Great, I'll store this and use it in a year or so when we're ready."
Well, like I wrote in my post the other day, Eleanor seems to be ready! Or at least, we're heading in the right direction. Here's how the week has gone:
Monday: Eleanor said "poop" after breakfast and proceeded to poop. That was an eye opener for me, so I got the potty out of storage. She sat on it for about 15 minutes after lunch, reading books, but nothing happened. Okay fine, she's getting the idea and she learned the word potty. ("pah-eee")
Tuesday: Since she normally dirties a diaper within minutes of finishing breakfast, I sat her on the potty right after breakfast and she pooped in the potty after about 5 minutes! I made a big deal of it and let her watch me dump it into the big potty and flush it. We said "bye" to the poop. She didn't get excited with me - I think she was taking it all in. We weren't home at lunch so nothing happened then.
Wednesday: She got on the potty again after breakfast and peed this time! I have no idea when she normally pees (with poop it's a bit more obvious...) so it was a good opportunity to teach her what that is. (We're calling it "pee pee" since she already knows the word "pea" and I don't want to get the two confused! Ha!) Her cousins were here at lunch so we didn't try it again then.
Thursday: She pooped before I even got her out of the high chair after breakfast, so we missed our window. I was a little discouraged because I was kind of hoping she would communicate too and it wasn't just me catching her at the right time. Well, when she finished lunch today she looked at me and said, "Poop! Pah-eee! Poop!" So we rushed into the bathroom and, a few minutes later, she pooped in the potty! Wow! Again though, she didn't get all excited with me. She actually seemed a little fearful when I got her up, showed her the poop, and flushed it. I think she was just a little upset that we stopped mid-book.
So that's three successes in three days. I don't see her being fully potty trained anytime in the near future, but I think we're actually heading in that direction. This girl is full of surprises!
Question for those of you who have potty trained a child before: We're going camping this weekend for one night. Is it worth it to take along the potty, or should we just take a 24 hour break from potty training? How important is that consistency at this point?
Also, any advice on potty training in general or camping with a 15-month-old is appreciated!
I've bought warm clothes for her that are about a size up thanks to her cloth diapers. If we actually potty train we're not going to have any clothes that fit her this winter!

Wow! I am impressed. I have no advice, but keep us posted. I look at your archives all the time for advice, so I'm sure I'll be hitting this one in a few months (ok, realistically, a few years ;).
