Flu

I woke up at 2:00 AM with a temperature of 101, and we have been battling the flu all day. I don't know if it's the swine flu or not, but Hunter and I both have it and, thankfully, Eleanor does not. Per the CDC's recommendations, I am still nursing her but I try to stay away from her otherwise - that's so hard! She spent the majority of the day in her swing. She loves her swing, but it was so sad to me that I couldn't pick her up and hold her more. Also, since I don't have a medical mask, I wore a bandanna over my face most of the time I was holding her. Hunter joked that I was going to steal the baby since I look like a bandit. Poor Eleanor kept looking at me with a very quizzical look, trying to figure out where the rest of my face went. I do look rather silly!

I spent a huge part of the day trying to figure out whether or not it was okay to take Tamiflu and nurse at the same time. My pediatrician, family doctor, and lactation consultant all gave different answers. I went with the LC's advice, which is to continue nursing. Right now Eleanor needs the antibodies from me and "pumping and dumping" and giving her formula - which my pediatrician recommended - is the worst thing I could do for her. After all, me nursing is what has kept her from getting sick in the first place. The LC told me about some research on Tamiflu, including that the CDC recommends taking it and nursing, and that made me feel a lot better. I just hope Eleanor stays healthy!

That's terrible. I hope you're feeling better soon. I've actually been thinking about you. Are you still planning on coming to San Diego in November?

I'm so glad you got some Tamiflu! Hope it helps soon. And anytime there's a question about medications & breastfeeding at my work, the doctors go to the lactation consultants for the answers. They are definitely experts at giving the babies what is best for them without putting them in any danger.

Oh, and I hope you took a picture of yourself as the baby bandit. :)

glad you kept nursing! this has been a helpful website to me when I have questions about nursing: http://www.kellymom.com/ or the La Leche League website too.

Hope you're feeling better!
